1) Engineers apply for all areas, in fact for the IIMA interview, majority were engineers for all areas- IIMs are nuetral about this, they are just concerned whether the candidate is good or not 2) Applying 2 or 3 areas is ok for the IIMs, in fact ppl do it to increase their chances of getting admitted. I saw ppl applying to unrelated areas. If one attends more interviews, more chances of getting into the institute, as simple as that! 3) No separate weightage for research topic, just that they would ask u abt that topic in detail in ur interview.
